No matter what the weather is, we do not forget to moisturise our lips. Especially in winter, we use lip balm every day, because skin on the lips is so sensitive that requires regular care. So, I prepared delicious lip balms which they challenge you to eat them… because HoneyBee Project without honey on the lips, doesn’t sound right!
5 g | 0.18 oz beeswax
5 g |0.18 oz cocoa butter
5 g | 0.18 oz wheat germ oil
5 g | 0.18 oz calendula oil
3 g | 0.11 oz jojoba oil
2 g |0.07 oz apricot kernel oil
0,5 g | 0.14 oz runny flower honey
5 drops vitamin E
10 drops honey food flavouring
- a glass pyrex bowl
- a saucepan
- measuring spoons
- stainless steel whisk for mixing
- high accuracy digital scale
- lip balm turbes or tins or jars
- Before we start making our lip balms, we sterilise tools, containers and work surface.
- In a glass pyrex bowl with a spout add the the cocoa butter.
- I use a saucepan as a double boiler, a method which is called “bain marie”. So fill a heat- proof saucepan 1/3 full of water and place to low temperature.
- Place the glass pyrex bowl into the saucepan and let the cocoa butter melt.
- When the butter is melted add the beeswax and the oils.
- Wait for the beeswax to melt and stir thoroughly.
- Remove the glass pyrex bowl from heat, stir thoroughly and add the honey. Mix well.
- Add the vitamin E and mix well again.
- Let the mixture to cool down a little bit and before it becomes solid, add the honey food flavouring. Stir thoroughly and pour the mixture into lip balm tubes.
- Beeswax contains antibiotic substances and provides rich antioxidant action, it heals and softens the skin while enhancing its elasticity. It is an anti- inflammatory ingredient that maintains the skin’s moisture to normal levels, by creating a protective hydro- lipidic film on its surface.
- Honey protects the skin from infections, is a natural moisturiser that can soften even the most dehydrated skin or hair and it fights free radicals thanks to its antioxidant properties, keeping the skin refreshed. It boosts the wound healing process and is a mild antiseptic.
- Cocoa butter is rich in vitamins E and K, it heals, softens and nourishes the skin while stimulating the elasticity and leaves a protective film on the lips, keeping the skin moisturised.
- Wheat germ oil is a major source of vitamin E and omega3, omega6 and omega9 fatty acids, it has antioxidant action and sustains the life of the lip balm while treats and heals the chapped lips.
- Calendula oil has potent antibacterial, anti- inflammatory and soothing properties, it is a natural disinfectant and heals directly and quickly the dehydrated lips.
- I used jojoba oil because it has the capacity to infiltrate in depth and accelerates the healing time of the lips.
- Apricot oil soothes and heals the lips as its fine texture allows faster infiltration to the skin, it heals and nourishes directly.
- Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant component, maintains skin moisture levels to normal, fighting dryness and acts as a natural preservative.
